Interview
I was very impressed by the employees of Lincoln Financial Group that both conducted interviews and helped candidates through the process.
I was recruited through on campus recruiting efforts at my University. My first interview was on campus a couple days after a career fair. After about a week, I was invited to the final round interview event in Philadelphia, PA.
The two day event started with an afternoon check-in and introduction meeting. The first evening there was a networking reception/ dinner. This was an opportunity to meet all of the hiring managers and to network with managers in an effort to be added to their interview schedule if a candidate was not originally scheduled to interview with that manager. The interviews were all day on the second day. All candidates were scheduled to interview for at least two different positions in the program. Positions in the program ranged from financial planner to HR associate, and marketing associate to financial analyst. There was also a leadership interview with a company leader to assess a candidate’s leadership potential and fit for the program. The candidates that had to fly had all morning interviews. Most of the afternoon interviews were for local candidates. There were approximately 60 candidates for 20 positions.

Question 1
I do not remember the majority of the interview. The leadership portion was challenging because it was not tied to a specific position.
The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Lincoln Financial Group in Nov 2016
Interview
I initially applied to the LPP (a two year program designed for recent college grads) sometime in the summer/early fall of my senior year. I heard back weeks later to set up a phone screen and subsequently had a brief interview over the phone that consisted of questions about my resume. It went well and then a month or two later I was invited to attend a final round interview day in the Radnor office. I was informed at the time of accepting an invitation to the final round that the department I was interested in working in was not hiring for the LPP this year but was encouraged to come to the final day to interview for two other positions. The final round consisted of a full day of events: interviews for the different positions that were hiring (I had two), breakfast, lunch/networking event, Q&A with current program participants, and a tour of the home office. The event was held in the Radnor hotel which was beautiful. The breakfast and lunch provided was awesome. All in all the day went really well. I didn't hear back for a few months so I assumed that I did not get the job. Well into my spring semester I received a call asking if I was still interested in one of the positions I had interviewed for. Although I was interviewing elsewhere at the time, I accepted the offer on the spot because the pay was well above what I was expecting, the benefits were good, and the program itself seems to be extremely promising.

Briefly explain to me the experience listed on your resume.

The Leadership Preparation Program for LFG is a two year rotational program in which you spend one year in one designated location and then your final year in the second location. You will focus on one area in your field the first year, and another area in the second if you choose. The position I was interviewing for would have me working in market research in Hartford, CT for the first year and Radnor, PA for the second. After the two years, you can choose to stay with the company and even get a chance to work in a different position than the two you spent the last two years working in if there is an opening within the company. I should also mention that they only hire one person for this area (I am not sure if this is true for all areas of the LPP). I went to career services office at the business school at my university for a resume critique. The person who critiqued my resume just so happened to be a recruiter at Lincoln Financial Group. He told me I had good resume, and that I would be a good fit for their Leadership Preparation Program. He told me to apply and after I did, he got back in touch with me a couple of days later for a first round phone interview. This interview was more about finding about my skills from previous internships and classroom experience, such as communication skills, market research knowledge, and whether I had worked with case studies in class. The second phone interview was the final interview and was with the person who would be my manager if I had gotten the job. She talked for most of it and explained that the position would be mostly about researching and creating reports about LFG's competitors' products in the area of variable annuities. I would also be responsible for creating quarterly reports for managers about the company's performance in relation to its competitors. The salary is non-negotiable with you making $52,000 the first year and $53,000 the second. I should also mention that you have to get your FINRA licenses (7 & 63 I believe) to in order to be able to do the job, but they help you and provide the study material and support for you to take the tests once you get hired. Overall it was a great experience despite the fact that I did not get the job.
