1. Initial screening with the recruiter coordinator.
2. Phone screen with the hiring manager
3. In-person interview with a team member and the director (although it was considered in-person, it was over video call)
Pros:
1. Professional coordinators, recruiters, hiring manager, and leader.
2. Quick turnaround
3. Feedback - whether I agree with it or not. I value a company that holds true to their values
Cons:
Be specific!
Explanation:
I was told that by the recruiting, that the hiring manager expected more details. I was told that I would be a good culture fit, and perhaps better for a different (lower-level role).
I've worked in Human Resources for several years and have interviewed candidates as a recruiter/hiring manager and have interviewed for positions as well. I've attended leadership trainings, and I currently facilitate trainings in my current role. I was taken back by the feedback. Something worth mentioning is in Human Resources it's important to understand relational context, cultural context, situational context regarding anytype of communication, specifically in an interview. No organization has employees with the same type of communication style (e.g. direct, systematic, etc), which is great because it would inhibit ideas, and growth, etc., within the organization. So, if the expectations where that I provide specific details, why not just ask? Example, tell me about a time when you had to coach leaders about performance management? vs tell me about a time when you had to coach a leader about performance management, and how did you measure the success of this coaching opportunity?
An interview is really a great chance for the organization to get to know if someone is a great fit for the role, and good fit for the culture of the company. I never interview candidates with expectations that they will know what I am expecting, if I have not communicated to those candidates what I am looking for. For example, I was asked, "tell me about a time when I had to complete an investigation that did not turn out as expected." If the expectation is that I discuss a time when the investigation ended with a termination, specify that. I've completed almost one hundred investigations. The questions could be answered several ways.
I read that LinkedIn is focusing on Diversity & Inclusion. I believe one tool that may be useful in understanding context and communication in general, is Insights Discovery. I've used it to help with coaching and mediation, interviews, and training & development.
I am thankful to have had the opportunity to interview for this position. I am very passionate about Human Resources, and I tend to look at processes from a systematic, and objective point of view while focusing on the details.
