This experience was an absolute waste of time! The recruitment process was unkind, and the company seemed penny-pinching and greedy. This was for a senior finance position, which required me to be onsite at their remote office three times a week for an annual salary of 61k.
Over the course of two months, I was invited for the same position twice. The first invitation came through an agency application, and the second through an application I submitted myself. The first interview was in person. I got up early on a Monday morning, traveled for over two hours to reach their onsite location, and had a fairly straightforward interview. The entire process went smoothly, only for me to be ghosted afterward.
The second time, the interview was under a different manager but same position and conducted virtually. It took place in early December, and I was given an Excel assessment afterward. The manager didn't even acknowledge the receipt of the assessment I sent. He assured me I would hear back before the end of the year, then went on his merry holiday, leaving me in limbo throughout Christmas. I emailed the recruiter after Christmas but before the New Year, and she said the hiring manager who had assured a response had gone on vacation without providing an update. She said I should hear back by the first week in January. Then, I was ghosted again. Interviewers are people not a candidate number in an application portal. Spent the whole holiday season refreshing my email hoping for an answer even a rejection would have sufficed.
If you have better alternatives and absolutely do not need a job, I would advise avoiding Loblaw altogether. I connected with some employees and asked about the company as a whole before my interview. I didn't receive a single positive comment about the company, but I decided to push on because I was job-seeking at the time.
Even the managers and recruiter couldn't sell the excitement about working there. When I asked the recruiter about the benefits provided, I was told, "You'd get some price off at No Frills and other affiliated stores." Why would I need a discount if you just paid a senior financial analyst a livable wage? Lol, underpay employees and still somehow incentivise them to spend their pay in your stores!!! There indeed levels to greed.
Mind you, this role requires not just knowledge of finance but also combines systems knowledge and needs you to be the middle-person between the finance and tech team. They will underpay you and, perhaps worse, completely waste your time commitment to their recruitment process.
I'd rate their recruitment process 1/10, and that 1 is only given because they at least have a pretend recruitment process, not because it's deserved!
