      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Loblaw Digital (Toronto, ON) in Jan 2017

      Interview

The interview process is very long (many months), but of course it ranges for everyone I’m sure. When you try to reach out to the HR at Loblaw Digital it’s almost impossible, they don't feel the urgency to get back to anyone and it comes off very arrogant and unprofessional. From what I’ve gathered this kind of lackadaisical approach is common of Loblaw Digital. What’s worse is when they say they’ll get back to you by a certain date you never actually end up hearing from them. Apparently this is a sentiment that is seen in the other reviews here. When this happens, you get a real sense that they’ve just forgotten about you, and that you don’t matter. You also get a sense that there is a tremendous lack of communication between departments. I had a first and second interview. I felt I had a very good interview and answered all of the questions they asked me very well. I felt it was definitely one of the best interviews I've delivered to date. The people who interviewed me were nice, however, they didn’t look the least bit interested in what I was talking about, even though they were the ones who had asked me to put a presentation together. It might be presumptuous, but I don’t believe that it was the topic of my presentation that elicited that sort of bored response, what I talked about would be interesting for a large audience, this I’m sure of. One thing that is really important to mention and may offer more evidence to how arrogant these people were during the interview process was when I was asked about my availability for the interview, which I kindly gave, they ended up setting up the interview for a time I wasn’t actually available for. I decided to let that slide and rearranged my schedule to accommodate, but this is just another example in a long list of “blatant disregard” for someone’s time. I call this arrogance because you get a real feeling that they believe their time is the most important and that because you are the one vying for a job you should be the one who rearranges your schedule to accommodate them. Which I guess is somewhat understandable but then why on earth would you ask for someone’s availability beforehand only to give them something far out of their specified availability—this just reeks of inexperience with a healthy lack of proper decorum while conducting professional interviews. Another thing that is worth mentioning is how inexperienced these people are at conducting interviews. I won’t go into detail but the people who interviewed me asked me 2 questions which shouldn’t be asked during an interview. I understand this is very vague but there is no clear way to say it without giving too much away. I realize most people here have not rated their interviews with Loblaw Digital. I strongly feel that these sorts of things happen very often at this company but go unreported. I know for a fact that I was not the only person(s) who experienced such unorganized, highly unprofessional, and very disrespectful way of conducting the interview process. If you are reading this and have not yet made your own review I would urge you to do so because I think new people who interview with Loblaw Digital need to know what they can expect from a negative experience like this one.

Thank you for taking the time to share your lengthy review. It's unfortunate to read that you did not have a positive experience exploring general potential future career opportunities at Loblaw Digital. We do ask candidates what times/days they prefer to interview & we do our best to accommodate and suggest alternates if there are no matches so we can keep the process going with speed. We do often have 40+ new open jobs posted at any time in areas like Digital Marketing, Product Management and Data Science. It is challenging for generalists to secure opportunities on teams that require specific skills & experiences. We are a Digital team that creates, implements and operates bleeding edge eCommerce solutions, presentations are expected to focus on our Digital business & technology, topics outside of this scope may not be as interesting to the audience. We understand that it's frustrating to experience long periods of unemployment. Wishing you the best of success in your career search!
