Interview
An interview with Longview is surprisingly straight forward compared to the standard norm in today's world. After a brief phone screen following initial application, a one hour interview was scheduled for both candidate and employer to learn more about each other and discuss the specifics of the opportunity. I learned a bit more about the company's origins and its focus on people development; it sure sounded great! Paid training, a strong focus on career development plans and a great chat about what the company is about.
There was a second interview with the technical leads I'd be directly working with day to day and the questions were pretty standard. How would I resolve an issue where client is not receiving mail, etc. One minor red flag which cropped up was that the team leads did not know which shift I would be working nor did the HR contact. That detail seemed to change between posting, interview and communications via email. Thankfully it was quickly sorted out with some negotiation.
I was excited to receive an official offer! Longview has a lot of great reasons to join the company, however I sadly had to decline. When presented with the offer the rate was well below expectation for the skillset required (bilingual, multi-client, high volume 30-50 interactions / day, varying client environments and technologies). While the posting was for a tier one role, the official title of "system consultant" carries a much higher national and local average than what was offered. Even Longview's own glassdoor reviews for "system consultant" with similar responsibilities was in the 60K range; the offer was in the low 40K range. I had attempted to negotiate but was advised to "maintain equity on the team" the offer was final with no further possibility to negotiate.
It's too bad; I was prepared to say yes! Perhaps next time.
