I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Lowe's Home Improvement (Cincinnati, OH) in Dec 2010
Interview
The interview focused on sales experience. They were looking for your sales skills and your ability to sell them you as an employee. The interviewers knew nothing about design and were not interested in my portfolio probably because they didn't have the ability to read blueprints. Also, there was no computer literacy component to the hiring process - which I later learned was a problem with their current employees.

met with a assistant store manager, fast, quick same day hiring, drug testing on site, started within a week, train on a online course for a week then on the floor mentor training.
Panel interview with three management persons. very overwhelming. You have to please three different personalities. However its the last step of the interview process. This was years ago so things could be different now.
