Applied online and was called for a phone screen about a week later. Immediately after the phone screen, I was invited to come in for an in-person interview. I met the current HR manager and area HR manager, who asked me typocal situational-based questions ("tell me about a time...") and took notes on my answers. Interview went well, and I was called in to meet the store manager a few days later. The store manager told me some things about the store, including that there has been extremely high turnover, which I appreciated. I received a phone call the following business day from the area HR manager with a job offer. It was far below market value, especially considering its a 50+ hour/week position. I asked for information regarding the benefit package, she refused. I asked if we can talk about/negotiate the salary offer. She called back the next day and said the store manager sets the salary and won't budge. I declined the offer, even though it was a position I was initially very excited about. I would have taken it if we could have met on the middle on the salary, or went with the average for an HR manager, or even HR generalist, in the area.
