      Customer Success Manager (CSM) Interview

      Sep 12, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Loxo (London, England)

      Interview

My recent encounter with Loxo has left me disheartened and frustrated, and it's safe to say that I will not be considering this company for future applications. Contradictions and a lack of transparency marred the entire experience. My First interaction with Loxo was not promising. Six months ago, a senior member of their sales team encouraged candidates to reach out. I was told without a real conversation that my experience was too "e-commerce heavy" and might not translate well. What made this even more puzzling was that the job description did not mention specific industry experience requirements. While industry-specific knowledge can certainly be an asset in customer success management, the core qualities of a great CSM go beyond industry expertise, such as: - Relationship Building - Proactive outreach Methods - Data analysis - Empathy - Customer-Centricity The industry knowledge will be taught during comprehensive training to get candidates up to speed on the platform, and not everyone within the company had recruitment experience before joining. Therefore, it was disheartening to find myself ignored after explaining my extensive experience and knowledge (and isn't the point of an interview/ informal chat to understand a candidate's skills and knowledge? ) Several months later, the same position was reopened, and a considerate CSM gave me an opportunity to have an informal chat. During subsequent interview rounds, it became apparent that the company expected CSM candidates to begin as CSAs dealing with support tickets to gain foundational knowledge. This requirement was never mentioned in the initial application; I was okay with it because I want to gain knowledge and experience for a CSM role. However, this information should have been clearly outlined in the job specification. After not hearing back for four weeks, I was informed that my experience and skills would be better suited for an onboarding specialist role. I was enthusiastic about this opportunity because of my passion for onboarding and expertise in creating startup strategies. Unfortunately, I received minimal information about the role's responsibilities and was not sent the requested job spec. After completing all the interviews, I was informed that I was unsuccessful due to my supposed lack of experience in onboarding and training. What's particularly puzzling is that we never discussed onboarding and training during the interview process because I initially applied for the CSM/CSA role. How is it possible to be mismatched for a role based on experience when the role was presented to me before I even spoke to the CEO? While I understand that job selection involves subjective factors like culture fit, personality, and likability, using experience as an excuse without providing constructive feedback is disingenuous and detrimental to one's confidence. My attempt to seek more detailed feedback was met with silence, leaving me with unanswered questions and a sense of unfulfilled potential. One particularly troubling aspect was the immediate posting of a new job spec after my rejection. This new job posting now requested a minimum of two years of experience, a stark contrast to the situation I faced, with over five years of relevant experience. This raises doubts about the sincerity and transparency of the company's hiring practices and their respect for candidates who seek clarity and fairness. In conclusion, my experience with Loxo was negative, and I have lost trust in the company's credibility. While I do not expect to be handed a job, all candidates deserve clear communication, respect, and the opportunity to learn and grow, regardless of the outcome. Sadly, this experience with Loxo has fallen short on all these fronts, leaving me with a sour impression and a clear decision not to consider future opportunities with the company.
