First interview was conducted over Zoom with a person adjacent to the position (different department, not a direct report). This was a get to know you interview, about 30 minutes. I was recommended for a second interview. Second interview was with the hiring manager (direct report) in person, on site. We discussed the role in more detail, how my experience aligned with the role, what the expectations of the role would be, the work schedule, etc. I asked both interviewers what the compensation range for the position would be. The first interviewer said "I don't know," which I found fair since this person was not in the same department. The second interviewer said "I can't tell you the salary range, only HR can share the salary range, and we're not there in the process yet," which seems like a ridiculous answer. At this point I invested several hours into this interview process, and I assume your company invested more than that (with resume reviews, etc.), so why can't the pay range be disclosed??? At this point we should establish if our goals are aligned prior to proceeding. I was told the next round of interviews would be with the site's senior leadership in about two weeks' time, and I would be notified regarding whether I was selected for that round. It has been 4 weeks and I have heard nothing.
