I was asked to contact the Sapling recruiter by an acquaintance who worked there because my acquaintance thought I'd be a good fit for the company. I sent the recruiter my resume, and he quickly responded, then called me and we talked about which positions they had open that might be a good fit for me. He asked me to apply for a marketing position they had open, and I had a phone interview (which went all right) with one person who supervised that position, and then an in-person interview with the person who'd previously held the position, and the person who directly supervised the open position. That interview seemed to go very well, and after sending the work samples my interviewers asked for, the recruiter contacted me again to set up a final interview with the full marketing team. This whole process took about a month, since I have a full time job that made it somewhat difficult to schedule interviews.
The day of my final interview the recruiter called me two hours before my schedule meeting time and said the head of the marketing department was called into a meeting, and he asked me to send him my availability to reschedule that group interview. I emailed him the next day with possible times I could come in... but then I never heard from him again, despite several emails and a couple of calls checking in. I even emailed one of the marketing team members I'd interviewed with, in case that recruiter had left and my emails weren't going through.
At first I imagined office was simply swamped with pre-holiday rush, but I've received no response to an email sent when the holidays were over.
No matter whether they have moved on with other candidates, are still conducting interviews, or have closed the position entirely, the recruiter's complete lack of communication is baffling and incredibly unprofessional. It's very odd, because my impression of Sapling before the recruiter cut off all communication was very favorable and everyone I spoke with was friendly, open, and seemed eager for me to join their team.
