I applied in-person. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Madewell (Troy, MI) in Dec 2013
Interview
I went into the store and asked if they were hiring and was told "We're always hiring!" The manager gave me an application. When I came back later that day with the completed application, she seemed to be impressed with my previous retail experience and was happy about the availability I gave. She said she would call me with a time to interview with the hiring manager. She called the later that evening and set up an interview two days later. She told me to come dressed "Madewell". On the day of the interview, the hiring manager was really nice and very laid back. Asked me all the questions I expected:
Who is Madewell's competition?
Who is the Madewell customer?
What is a time you went above and beyond typical customer service?
What is one time you had to deal with a difficult customer?
Why do you want to work here?
What is your style?
How would your former bosses describe you?
I applied on a Monday and despite a really good interview (I thought), I received a letter in the mail that Friday (looks like the letter was typed on Tuesday).
