I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Malauzai Software (Austin, TX) in Aug 2017
Interview
I had an initial Skype interview that mainly consisted of feeling me out for culture fit and going through my resume in detail to get a sense of my technical aptitude. I got the chance to ask all the questions I could think of. It really was a two way conversation and enjoyable.
I flew in for a short interview with The Chief Architect Pam. This was a more technical conversation through means of going through past experiences.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Malauzai Software (Austin, TX) in May 2019
Interview
My interview was very clearly fake, as the team lead I was interviewing with kept mentioning negative hypotheticals about my prospects as a candidate such as,
Let's assume you're not going to get the job...
Don't be surprised if you don't get the job...
I'm not so sure you're going to get the job...
even before the interview actually began! My advice to anyone involved with hiring at Malauzai: please be respectful of my time as a candidate, as well as the time of your employees. If you've already decided I'm not getting the job before I even walk in the room to interview, then we candidates would honestly prefer you to just cut the interview off right then and there. Not only does it not respect the time and effort I put into traveling for this interview, but it also doesn't respect the time of your engineers who had to sit with me for several hours conducting an interview that knowingly would accomplish nothing.
The subordinate engineers that I interviewed with were incredibly nice. The questions were very simple and easy, and the engineers all complimented my answers. However, I fear that the ease of the interview otherwise was because they really didn't have any interest in expending effort on me. Even when I asked for a business card so I could later thank them for their time, the team lead refused.
