The interview was a Zoom meeting. The Marion County people were all in a conference room. After the interview began, they emailed me the interview questions.
The job description read:
"The Policy Analyst Senior functions as a policy analyst to the Board of Commissioners and the Chief Administrative Officer. Identifies and performs complex analysis providing policy options that advance the county's goals and objectives. Functions as a member of the Chief Administrative Officer's management team. Conducts policy analysis, . . ."
Clearly a focus on policy analysis, but, when asked about that component of the job, I was told that no policy analysis would be on the menu. It was strictly a communications position.
The interviewers' responses to my questions regarding their expectations of the position and current and future public relations, communications, and marketing strategies and policies made it clear that none of them were knowledgeable in the field, which must have made their job incredibly difficult. The process felt somewhat disorganized and it felt more like I was interviewing them and they had not prepared for the interview. Quite uncomfortable.
