I applied online. I interviewed at Marks & Spencer (Birmingham, England) in May 2026
Interview
I recently went through the interview process for a part time night shift position at M&S and unfortunately the experience has left me deeply disappointed.
The interview itself was fine the staff I met were pleasant and professional. However, what followed was completely unacceptable.
I was told during my interview that I would hear back within approximately one week this was in May . Several weeks later I have still received no formal outcome. Throughout this entire process I have had to initiate every single point of contact myself, only to be told to “be patient” and wait. At no point did the recruitment team proactively reach out to update me.
In today’s job market, candidates invest significant time, energy and emotional effort into interview processes. To be met with prolonged silence and vague reassurances with no resolution shows a fundamental lack of respect for people’s time and circumstances.
A simple yes or no would have sufficed. The silence is the most disappointing part. After travelling an hour for the interview and being in the retail industry for over a decade. I expected more respect than that. An email has been sent but no response.
I would encourage M&S to review their candidate communication process. People deserve basic courtesy regardless of the outcome.

Interview
Initially went and the last candidate overran (i waited for 40 minutes extra) so my interview got moved to next week. Original interviewer wasn't available so a colleague performed it. They could not find the interview sheet so had to come up with questions on the spot and get my details again. I was a bit annoyed but I think the interview was okay.
