I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Mars (Bolton, ON) in Jul 2017
Interview
I was moved through the process via a recruiter. The process was as follows:
- Initial call with recruiter
- Meeting with the Director
- Panel/Case Study Interview with 4 Mars employees
Overall it was a straight forward interview. Mars wants to ensure you know your marketing fundamentals, and they really question you on that. The director gave me situational questions to see if I knew how to do Nielsen type analysis. The case study was about driving profitability for the portfolio, and was around repositioning the brands to achieve that. The company is focussed on driving profitability, especially on the pet care business right now.
The case study is in the office. They give you 1 hour to prep, and then 30 mins to present to the panel with questions asked.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1) How do you know if your innovation is performing well?
2) Your business is declining, what kind of Nielsen metrics would you pull to analyze this information?
3) Your category is declining, and so is your brand. How can you explain why your brand is losing penetration?
4) How would you drive profitability for the wet food business (case study question)?
5) How would you allocate budget/resources?
6) Tell me about a time you had a conflict with a cross functional team member?
Behavioral with some case questions. Not a warm interview- felt like they were grilling me, especially the most senior people. Expect you to come prepared with examples of brands and marketing content and will push you with more questions
