      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at MathWorks (Boston, MA) in Apr 2017

      Interview

Attended 3 out of 4 rounds for Mechanical Engineering Co-Op. I had experience in Control Systems and working on it using Matlab and Simulink. First round: You need to video record answers for questions that are asked through an App or website. You will have 2 attempts to record each answer. Questions are general ones like why are you interested in the position, why do you think you are a good fit, what is your gpa, when would you graduate and do you need visa sponsorship to work, a question based on what is told at the introduction before questions appear. You will have 15-30 seconds to prepare for the response before the recording starts. It is quite simple if you have your resume and personal information sorted out. Second round: Coding Challenge. You need to select two languages out of the options given to you and Math is compulsory, but easy enough if you know one of the topics between linear algebra/ODE's/I am not sure what else, but you will be notified so it'll be alright. And language choice is between C/C++(combined), Java, Python and Matlab programming. You will have time allotted for two languages separately. This challenge will be online and will be through a website with built in compiler. So challenge will include basic to intermediate programming questions, on syntax, on writing programs for specific calculations, patterns or tasks. If you have experience with programming languages, it should be doable. Otherwise, you should try to learn two languages and do assignments for may be 4-7 days. 3rd round: It was a technical interview. You will need to login to a team viewer kind of environment where the interviewer can type in programming questions and you can type in the solution for him/her to see. The questions will be again on the same languages that you selected earlier. May be you can ask for different language questions. And simple Math questions also will be asked, including a few simple derivations. Also, since you need to select one of the Mechanical Eng topics which you would want to work on at Mathworks, I selected Control Systems which I had experience with. You will be asked about the extent to which you know the subject and projects that you listed on Resume related to it. 4th round: Probably HR round. Did not make it to this round due to some incorrect programming solutions from my side and silly mistakes in Math questions. Also, make sure to answer without taking a lot of time after the question is asked. I did that to work out some solutions on paper which was fine with the interviewer, but took a bit longer time and that made the interviewer feel I was searching for the answers even though the answer was kind of wrong in some cases.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Programming questions were unexpected for me, as it appeared as if we could select either C or C++ and I had prepared well for C. But it was C/C++ to select in the challenge and questions were mostly in C++.
