      Human Services Researcher Interview

      Jan 15, 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Mathematica

      Interview

I had a first-round interview at the APPAM conference in which three Mathematica employees interviewed me for 30 minutes. Everyone was cordial and professional. I described my research for the first five minutes or so, after which they asked me questions about my dissertation. I received an invitation for a second-round interview ("flyout") about two weeks later, which consisted of a dinner and a full day of meetings. Everyone that I met with was friendly and encouraging. Overall it was a very positive experience!

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Mathematica (Oakland, CA) in Jan 2020

      Interview

I applied online in early October, which involved submitting my job market paper and 3 letters of recommendation. I received an email with an offer for a first round interview 6 weeks later (in late November) (I also was unable to interview at APPAM or ASSA, where they commonly do first round interviews). The phone interview was a few days later, and involved questions about my job market paper (both interviewers had read the paper). HR called me a week later to ask me to come to the office to give the job talk. The job talk was scheduled for a month later (early January). The visit involved a dinner the night before, then a full day of interviews. I had six 30 minute interviews, one 45 minute interview (which involved specific questions about my job market paper), as well as giving my job talk (which was a 45 minute presentation with 15 minutes of questions).
