      Human Services Research Analyst Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Mathematica in Apr 2021

      Interview

My experience with Mathematica's interview process lasted three months. I applied online at the end of February. I was contacted a month later for a screening call by a senior talent acquisition coordinator. The coordinator sent me several dates, to which I replied within an hour, and then emailed me a week later with a new date. The screening call was a 30 minute phone interview with a Human Services Researcher. We had a lovely call. The interviewer assured me that it would be a long process, but I was welcome to follow up with her or the HR coordinator. She said "there's no wrong door." Following our conversation, I sent a thank you. Two weeks after the screening interview, I hadn't heard any updates so I emailed the coordinator to follow up. Two weeks after trying to contact the coordinator, I emailed the interviewer to follow up. I never heard from either. I checked the careers.peopleclick.com account for my application status regularly, and it was through the account that I saw my application status switched from "considering" to "not selected". Had I been selected to move forward in the process, the next and last step would have been a half day of virtual interviews. There would have been about 6 half-hour interviews with two interviewers in each session, each session focused on a different skill set. The screening interview itself was a lovely conversation, but I am disappointed in how the communications were handled - both before and after the interview. I know that hiring is a taxing and consuming process, but I would like to see Mathematica (as well as other employers) treat applicants with more respect for applicants.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Mathematica (Oakland, CA)

      Interview

I applied online and received an invitation for a phone interview after about a month. The phone interview was with a researcher and HR specialist. It was very pleasant, and the researcher asked me typical questions about my interests and past experiences. The in-person interview was really disappointing. It lasted from 9-3 pm, and I got the sense that the interviewers were not interested at all in the interview process. For three of the interviews scheduled, I was not asked any questions at all about my background. These interviews got started by the interviewer asking me if I had any questions. I'd ask in each of these interviews if I could provide more information about my background and each declined. After this happened for the third time, I started to wonder why the company was pursuing my application. It seemed like they wouldn't have any information to use in their assessment, other than my online application. Furthermore, during the interviews, I discovered that HR distributed the wrong application materials to the interviewers. The only portion of the interview that was face-to-face was 2 hours, and the rest was over a TV. I did have some really pleasant meetings with MPR employees, but the bulk of the experience had multiple pain points. Finally, it took a really long time to hear back. I followed up after 2 weeks and then 2 weeks after that, and my HR contact sent me a blank email with a rejection letter attached. I understand that time is limited and I'm just one applicant, but the lack of interview processes I experienced was negative.
