      Survey Analyst Interview

      Jul 28, 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Mathematica (Chicago, IL) in Jul 2021

      Interview

Time line: I applied to the position online in mid-May and was contacted for the first interview in late June, which was scheduled for 1 week later. I was invited to a 2nd interview 2 days after the 1st one, and the scheduling took about 2 weeks. About 1 week after my 2nd interview I was offered the position. Round 1: 30-minute phone interview with a senior researcher. Mostly focused on my experience with survey research. Very conversational and relaxing. Round 2: 4-hour interviews with 10 people. This includes: 1. 15-min presentation of a survey-related case study (24-hour prep time) to a panel of interviewers and answering their questions to my presentation; 2. 15-min conversation with HR about logistics; 3. a few 30-min sessions with directors, survey researchers and analysts on the team. All the interview sessions were very insightful and conversational, and mostly focused on my relevant experience and soft skills, including communication, problem-solving and leadership. All the interviewers are very nice and helpful, and everyone seemed genuinely interested in learning about my background and providing useful information on the role and the team. The interviews are not very technical and mostly behavioral.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Mathematica (Princeton, NJ) in Aug 2019

      Interview

After submitting my resume through the company website, I was contacted one and a half weeks later for a telephone screener interview. Two days later I was contacted for a more indepth telephone interview. A few days after that Iwas invited to come to the office for a full day in-person interview. The full day interview was packed and I got to meet people both in person and via teleconference. Lunch with two employees who held the same position that I was applying for was a great way to learn about company culture in an informal setting.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Many of the questions were based on my ability to function as a team member and team leader.
