      Data Scientist Interview

      Aug 12, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Mathematica in Feb 2021

      Interview

recruiter call, code sample, take home project, interview to review take home, final day of multiple group interviews. Everyone at Mathematica is obviously smart and passionate about their work. I enjoyed their approach to asking you technical questions; they would ask you more about your approach to various problems, what you've done in the past, etc rather than just drilling you with random stats questions. Huge, huge downside is how long everything takes. 2 months after applying, you hear from the recruiter, then it's about a month between each step, and finally 4 and a half weeks to hear back after final interview. Recruiters will completely ignore your attempts to reach out and ask what the status of everything is. Never seen anything like it before, but maybe I'm just used to the tech world...

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Mathematica in Mar 2022

      Interview

The process was fairly straightforward: I was contacted by a recruiter for a 20 minute screening. After the screening, I completed a coding skills assessment and a technical interview with two members of the team. Finally, I underwent a three hour long series of interviews with various team members. There was approximately a one week period between each step of the process. My HR contact was courteous and conscientious at every step of the way.

      Question 1

What technical methodology might you employ to minimize bias in results when dealing with bias in data that has small numbers of samples for an important subset of the population?
