I had a recruiter reach out to me on Linkedin about the role. He seemed rushed and like he had a number of priorities and commitments pulling focus.
He also seemed pretty routinely out of touch with what was happening in my specific process, and although he tried to include other members of the recruiting process they all seem pretty overwhelmed and disorganized.
Over the course of 7 weeks, I went through a 20 minute recruiter call, 30 minute interview with the team lead and then four 60 minute long interviews with various leadership team members in the org. I then compiled a multi-slide 30 minute presentation based on a prompt provided and gave another 45 minute presentation/interview before having a full week pass and receiving an automated rejection email.
I think the whole thing was on me honestly - they kept telling me (I heard the specific language "hot mess" from multiple leaders) what a mess they are right now and how they don't know how to handle their business. Then, throughout the process despite the sincerity and openness I appreciated from the team lead and different leaders, it was continually confirmed that this is a disorganized, unfocused and generally detached organization currently. The final verification of such was the email that was sent that says "I want to personally thank you..." and then wasn't from an actual person or alias. It was from a no-reply email and signed 'the Matterport Recruiting Team'.
So learn from my arrogance and disassociation - this is not a good investment of anyone's time right now. This team needs to pull their act together and present as an efficient organization with a vision and practices to get there.
