      Senior Product Manager Interview

      Jun 4, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Maven Clinic in Apr 2023

      Interview

I applied online and got a response from a recruiter within a day or two. He was extremely nice and passionate about his job, so I got excited to move forward. My second round was supposed to be with a hiring manager, but instead, I was interviewed by their CPO. Honestly, I was surprised that someone so high up would get involved in the process so early on. When he showed up, I immediately felt disinterest; his demeanor was very cold and impersonal, and he certainly looked like he didn't want to be there. He asked simple and straightforward questions, but I didn't feel comfortable around him at all. It felt like an interrogation rather than assessing my product knowledge, cultural fit, or interest in the domain. He only left 3 mins in the end for me to ask him questions, and quite frankly, he wasn't able to answer anything I asked him about the role and the team. I don't understand this approach to interviewing candidates. The second round is supposed to be two-way - you ask me questions but also educate me on your product, responsibilities, and expertise that you need. Seemed pretty unorganized for a company with such a great mission

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Maven Clinic

      Interview

Recruiter was very professional and top notch, deserves a promotion. However, the product interview with the CPO was subpar. He was not engaged and seem bored. He came across egotistical. I asked him a question and he said "he was 5 levels removed and that he wouldn't know". Well, if I were the CPO, I would know but I guess thats the difference between great leadership and arrogant leadership. If your product was so good under your guidance, would wouldn't need a series E funding round. If a company is still trying to figure out its business model, product/market fit, or path to profitability, having to raise Series E funding may indicate that it is having difficulty achieving these milestones. This could be a sign of issues with the company's strategy or execution. If a company planned to exit (either through an acquisition or IPO) before reaching a Series E round, but has been unable to do so, this might be seen as a negative signal. Thats just my opinion. I interviewed because I believed in the mission, I still hope they can achieve it. Unfortunately, I dont think they have all the right people in place. Best of luck
