I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at McKinsey & Company in Apr 2010
Interview
There were 3 rounds of interviews (I made it to the second):
1) Case interview (30-45 mins) - The first round was a straight case interview done over the phone. It was fairly straight forward profitability case conducted by a McKinsey alumnus.
2) In Office: This had two parts, 2 1:1 interviews, consisting of both personal experience and case questions, and a written problem solving test.
- Interviews - the interviewers were both very easy to talk to and made the interview pretty comfortable. Experience questions deal with team work and leadership. Be prepared to go into pretty deep detail with whatever story you choose. They will want to know about exact conversations and outcomes. The case questions were similar to the phone interview. Preparation is key. You need to be organized in your thoughts and presentation. Case in Point is a great book to get you started, but the best way to prep is to work with a partner.
- Problem Solving Test - You get an hour to complete a 26 question test with about 4 different cases and several questions pertaining to each. The biggest issue with this is timing. There is a practice test on McKinsey's website that is a shortened version of what you will see.
3) I didn't make it to the third, but it would be more of the same in office interviews.

Interview
Positive experience until the super day. The scheduling was quite long and they gave me a month's gap between my previous round and my final round. But overall everyone speaks eloquently and thinks logically. My interactions with senior partners are also very positive; they ask insightful, probing questions and were encouraging throughout the interview. I thought I smashed it, but one of the partners called me the other day and rejected me.
After submitting my application in their portal. In about two days I recevied the link to do their Solve assessment, The assessment had three games. I was however not selected for the next rounds.
