      McKinsey Implementation Coach Interview

      Mar 13, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at McKinsey & Company (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2015

      Interview

Not very clear communication regarding interview times. Had 2 interviews and then was called by the recruiter and told the client went in a different direction and the position was not longer available. Not sure if I was let down easy or not. I put in a lot of effort going over cases and learning the McKinsey way to have it end so suddenly.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The interview asked questions about a case involving a company that processes Chickens. The problem was a weighted average problem.

      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at McKinsey & Company (New York, NY) in Aug 2016

      Interview

HR phone screen followed by 3 rounds of interview - 1. HR Phone screen - Basic Q&A, HR asks you to make your elevator pitch. Formal introduction to the process is made by HR. Very likely if you got this call then you are pretty much qualified for the next round (I felt this round was a formality). 2. Case prep for phone interview - 45 minute call for practicing case interview. Highly recommended - No inputs given by the interviewer to the HR so feel free to ask lot of questions and dont be afraid to make mistakes. 3. Phone interview - very formal and to the point. 30 minutes case. 4. 1:1 x 2 rounds with colleagues - 30 minute case, 25 minute PEI. 5. Partner interview - 1:1 x 3 rounds - Similar to step 4. advice# 1 - Please focus on operations specific cases. When you interview your name tag calls for "ops recruiting". Case prep workshops or the HR will never mention this - they will always say that you will get a general case. However a little focus on Operations related cases might help. advice# 2 - I had two interviewers : one was super nice (good cop) and other one was a jerk (bad cop) , so the fact that "the firm" is always super nice to you is not always true. Jerk interviewer was yawning and texting in my interview. advice#3 - I highly recommend focusing more on case and less on PEI. Case is the decider, PEI has usually only one question (how did you handled situation in adversity) which is manageable.

      Question 1

Operations specific questions. Study shop floor improvement processes - not definitions like (EOQ, DPMO) but specific questions like how would you improve productivity, increase capacity.
