Interview Process at McKinsey – 5 Rounds
I went through a 5-round interview process with McKinsey, which included 2 rounds with peers and 3 rounds with partners. Each round typically consisted of two components:
Case Interview (Market Entry Focus)
In several rounds, I was given a market entry case with a strategic business question—for example:
“Would you invest $500M in this market? Why or why not?”
I was expected to structure the problem, analyze both qualitative and quantitative data, assess market attractiveness, and make a well-reasoned recommendation under time pressure.
Personal Experience Interview (PEI)
Each round also included a Personal Experience Interview, where I was asked to reflect on past leadership, teamwork, or conflict situations. The interviewer was particularly focused on how I handled challenges, drove impact, and demonstrated McKinsey’s core values such as personal ownership, problem-solving, and inclusive leadership.
