First, you have to take 6 online personality tests that take 20-30 minutes each...yes, you read that right...6 personality tests and then an aptitude test. They say that they want to protect their culture...more on that later....see below. If you pass the tests, then you become privileged enough to speak to a human. The first interview is by phone with HR. The next is with the hiring manager. Both interviews were good. Good give and take with questions and answers on both sides. I thought it was odd, but in each of the steps, the interviewers make it a point to try and find out very early in the process what salary you expect and tell you that you can't move forward unless you tell them. It later became obvious as to why. They don't pay anywhere near market rate. The base salary for an experienced sales person in Mechdyne is 35%-45% below market rate and OTE is half the market rate. If you pass those hurdles, then you get to go the thriving metropolis that is Marshalltown, Iowa for a full day of endless interviews where you meet and interview with at least a half dozen people from different departments in the company. By the second interview onsite, it became apparent that they don't have any culture at all. They all seemed like automatons asking the same questions over and over from what seemed like a company provided list. There were virtually no individually inspired questions. As a side note, the hiring manager didn't take the time to show up for the in person interview. Everything became crystal clear when interviewing with the executives. It is obvious why there is no real culture there...they just want everyone to do what they tell them to do and not question the leaders. The interview itself was simple but they made it clear that they weren't interested in answering any of my questions and that I was there only to answer their questions. I almost got up and walked out of the interview but I didn't. I finished out the day and made the 1 hour drive back through the endless corn fields to nearest airport. The next day, I thanked them for the time but was not interested in moving forward. In summary, if you need a job, don't mind going through their contrived obstacle course, are willing to take way below market pay, and serve as one of the Borg collective then Mechdyne might be a good fit for you.
