      Assistant Project Manager Interview

      Nov 18, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Ann Arbor, MI
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Menlo Innovations (Ann Arbor, MI) in Sep 2018

      Interview

Get ready, it's a weird one. Menlo does something they call Extreme Interviewing. You come in with roughly 50 other people applying for various jobs and get paired off to work on a 20min activity together. You do 3 activities with 3 different people while being observed by current staff. They are looking for personality traits rather than say, technical skill; and they tell you this. If the staff like what they observed, you're invited to a one-day of paid work where they assess you more closely. Team members take you out to lunch and you get to ask a lot more personal questions of them should you have some. Next, they will invite you for a one to three-week "interview"; it's more like a trial period for you both where they assess your technical skill your cultural fit more deeply. Again, it's paid. All of which include frequent feedback. After which, they offer you a position and level (or not) decided on by the team and what they think is appropriate. There's no negotiation. If you feel like you deserve more and you can demonstrate your skills, they are happy to review and bump you up at any time. They offered one guy a much lower salary than he expected because of his technical skills and told him they would review his level every week if he wanted and would bump him up as he showed progress. It's a pretty interesting process and takes a lot of the nerves and unknowingness out of interviewing, I feel.
