I was referred by a friend who went through the program.
A week or two later, I was invited for a phone interview. I was -- at the time -- abroad and all available slots were 2-4 AM for me, but I was happy enough to hop on the phone then. The questions were very casual and my recruiter seemed sweet, just checking off boxes. "Why PM?" and "Why Facebook?"
The next round was the "product sense" & "execution" interviews. Again, I had to interview in the wee hours of the morning, but both of my interviewers seemed supportive & sympathetic when I let them know early on. The interviews were fun! "Execution" was not as scary as I had expected -- especially if you ask for some time to think and get your thoughts together.
Initially, I was told I would hear back in 3 days. After not hearing back for a week, I started to get worried. I wanted to check-in but was afraid of seeming too pushy or needy. But thankfully, my recruiter reached out: "the team needed more time for decisions" and I'd hear back in another week. Fair enough.
After another week had passed, I emailed my recruiter -- radio silence for three long days. Ultimately, I heard back 2.5 weeks after my second interview that "business needs" had changed and that FB was no longer moving applicants on through the process.
I was a bit bummed. I thought I had done well enough to move on. And maybe I had? I still don't know for certain if I didn't meet a certain threshold or if FB had sliced the number of available spots during the RPM recruiting process itself.
I was extended a bit of a confused offer to "get back in touch" and reapply for the next cycle a year from now. I'm, of course, sympathetic to evolving business needs, but I can't help but imagine the presumed behind-the-scenes reshuffling.
The company is going through a lot in the news now. Myanmar. Misinformation. Data breaches. Maybe it's not the most steady ship to hop on right now? But then again, big ships sink slowly.
