      Rotational Product Manager Interview

      Sep 16, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Meta in Sep 2020

      Interview

I got an employee referral for this interview. The first stage of the application is a call with a recruiter which took about 30 minutes. The recruiter was extremely nice and very thorough in her explanations. She asked a set of basic behavioural questions and at the end of the call offered to move me to the next round. The next round was divided into two parts, Product Sense and Product Execution. This is where things got a little ugly. Product sense: The interviewer clearly did not want to be there. They were rude and condescending and provided little to no discussion to an interview that at its core is supposed to be heavy on discussion. They did not answer my post-interview questions and seemed clearly uncomfortable with me. In my honest opinion if Facebook is truly trying to increase diversity then people like the one who conducted my interview for Product Sense should not be given that task until they have undergone some additional bias training and learn to control their external display of emotions a little better. Execution: Interview went smoothly, the interviewer was clearly experienced and was helpful during our metrics discussions. Answered all my questions at the end and they left plenty of time for discussion. After these two I got an email within 48 hours saying I was not moving on to the final round. I would love to say that I was "surprised" but I was not especially after the product sense interview. Facebook clearly has a long way to go in ensuring that applicants who are not the "norm" in tech are given a fair shot and this includes ensuring that those who are doing the interviews are aware of their own biases and know how to maintain composure when they are dealing with a new situation. As someone who thinks highly of this company, I wish I had better things to say about how the interview process went but this is it and it really saddens me that it had to go this way.
