The interview process for my position happened when I interviewed to be a grad student. I talked to several faculty members over the phone, then came in for an in-person meeting with the faculty members. They were very receptive to my questions and kept the process as transparent as possible. After accepting the offer, I did learn that my job was going to be pretty different from the description they had originally given me. I would ask for a written set of job requirements before accepting.
