I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2014
Interview
I had an internal referral which helped things along nicely.
After applying for the job, a recruiter reached out to me to schedule a quick Skype interview as I was remote. I then had similar interviews with peers and the hiring manager.
I was invited to interview onsite, which was a bit crazy for me because I had to fly internationally, but they absolutely made the most of my time. They covered everything from work to social and it was really nice to see everyone in both situations.
No crazy brain teasers here, it was all about prior experience, technical ability, passion and team fit.
