The interview process began as a dream. Every relevant stakeholder I spoke to was friendlier than the last, and I felt confident from the very start that I was the perfect candidate for the position–a sentiment echoed by 3 of the 4 individuals I spoke to by phone and in person. I should've known from the start it was too good to be true, however. The third-party screening company Mill Creek uses for background screenings is useless. I believe they're called Justifacts. To make a long story short, I ended up doing the leg work on over half of my own employment and education screening. This process drug on for over a month, well into the holiday season, through countless phone calls with Justifacts from several different agents who asked me the same questions, clearly having not bothered to check the account beforehand. When it was all said and done, my offer was rescinded ... but not before Mill Creek delivered the final blow by re-posting the position on Glassdoor. Imagine my surprise when I received a notification that I might be a "good fit" for a job I'd already signed an offer for. My advice to management? Shed the antiquated background screenings of old and get with the times lest you miss out on a valuable asset to your company.
