By far one of the worst interviews I've ever experienced. It was impersonal, poorly structured and the hiring manager showed little to no leadership skills.
Phone screen: Talent team member was very nice and gave a lot of insight into the company.
Hiring Manager - Intro
A recurring theme regarding this interview would be on structure, as it felt like there really wasn't any. Our "intro" was brief. Hiring Manager began our interview by bluntly and unenthusiastically asking "Do you want me to talk about Miro or what do you want to do?" I was a little thrown back especially as it was one of the first things we said to each other. I mentioned I'd spoken to the recruiter about the company as a whole, but would love to get his perspective and more directly about the performance marketing team and how it operates. He looked a little bemused and reluctantly told me about the org structure of the marketing team.
Throughout the intro and the whole interview as a whole, I got the impression hiring manager didn't want to be there. My thoughts were he'd probably had back to back interviews and was perhaps repeating himself a little. Either way I tried to persevere and sound enthusiastic about the role and Miro ,even if that wasn't being reflected by the hiring manager.
Experience
We spoke about my experience in my two previous companies but it was oddly focused on a very specific aspect of the operation of my company 3 years ago, I was trying to understand the context it would have to Miro so I could tie it in, but it felt like I was providing very technical insights of the company which held no bearing to my experience as a performance marketing executive.
Hiring manager eventually went off this line of questioning and it really led to nowhere, I felt like I wasn't able to articulate my achievements here.
I went on to speak about my most current work answering questions that felt like they were randomly the first thing that came to mind. Hiring manager mentioned that he hadn't had experience working on App-first businesses, so I'll perhaps equate it to that.
The most difficult part here was as I was speaking about my experience here, I was constantly being interrupted, so much so that I lost my train of thought multiple times. Being completely derailed as well as feeling this interview wasn't going well I had to reset myself and once again didn't articulate my achievements and expertise working in performance marketing.
End of the Interview
As we were wrapping Hiring asked essentially "Why Performance Marketing and why Miro"? Unfortunately, this wasn't how it was conveyed. He took a sigh and asked me why I'm here and why I do this. I explained my passion for working for a mission-led company that takes the friction out of collaboration in the remote working world. It was hard to tell if he had completely switched off by then.
I was asked if I had any questions (again reluctantly) and even though I had prepared a list of key questions I didn't think it was even worthwhile. I asked 2 out of my 5 questions, there was an awkward silence and the interview ended.
