My phone interview with Modern Animal was standard. The person that I spoke with for about an hour was professional, smart and somewhat personable. Naturally, we began to speak of the next step in the interview process. Unfortunately, it consisted of a pretty ridiculous assignment which needed to be completed within 72 hours. Don't get me wrong, I think Modern Animal is an awesome start-up which I would've liked to be a part of. But I had neither the time or inclination to complete the assignment. Basically, I wasn't motivated to jump through hoops in order to move to the next round.
BTW, by the time the 72 hours expired, I had 2 other job offers,
TIP: As a potential candidate, I'm interview you (and the company) as much as you're interviewing me. Its admirable that you strive to hire "the best" people, but at the end of the day you're still a start-up. Keep your standards high, but maybe focus on candidate experience a little bit more.
