This was in 2017, after pivot to video and a lot of journalists got laid off. Got a cold email and was desperate to find a new job, had a phone interview, a writing test, did A FULL DAY OF WORK where they used my content for free (I signed something saying they could), had more IRL interviews, then they had me craft a business plan for them. Then they told me via a long email that I wasn't a good fit — turns out they had been doing this to A LOT of journalists, many of whom had just been laid off, in an attempt to get free content. I'm not bitter about many things, but this was just extremely rude and cruel to people who were looking for journalism gigs in a toxic environment. I've interviewed at much better places where I did much less work. DO NOT INTERVIEW WITH THEM.
