      Candidate Operations Associate Interview

      Sep 27, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Multiverse (London, England) in Jul 2022

      Interview

I interviewed with Multiverse in July 2022 and the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I was recently discusing my interview process with a relative, and felt it was necesary to raise here to ward off other individuals who wish to join a company like this. As a person who comes from a background similar to the candidates that the company ethos claims to support (working class, neurodivergent, no higher education past A-Levels), their treatment in hiring was absolutely shocking. I was incredibly passionate about their mission, and would frequent their job board to see if they had a role in line with my experience. After my second interview, they were "so impressed" with me as a candidate that they wanted to bypass the task that would have been in the next interview stage, and offer me a 3 month FTC in place, which would then be evolved into a permanent contract if I did well. In the interview prior to this offer, they did mention that they were about to launch a major project that required a lot of bodies, and the FTC offer in their words, would have been the perfect way to "get [me] in asap and bypass the interview processes". They then went on to say that they "had people join during peak periods and very quickly extended them a perm offer based on their performance". I raised my discomfort at being unable to foresee any security in a FTC, which was met with an insulting rebuke where they asked me to turn down other job offers for permanent contracts, as they knew I had an emotional connection to their company mission. They also then tried to backtrack in a further meeting, stating that it would "almost definitely" turn into a permanent contract, which furthered my frustration as it was clear they felt I was qualified for the position. It is no secret that proposal of a FTC with a dangled prospect of full time employment, only for said prospect to be withdrawn at the eleventh hour is a sadly common phenomenon. It was disheartening to see a company with such promise partake in a behaviour that already affects the people their company is claiming to support. Any recruitment process with a company indulging in this practice is shocking, even more so when you consider that Multiverse's mission is to uplift and progress careers for people with disenfranchised backgrounds. The irony is not lost on me. Such practices could easily be mitigated with a less convoluted recruitment process.
