If you want to know what a company truly values, look at how it treats candidates. By that measure, Mural fails spectacularly!
The process started well enough. The first interview with the hiring manager, was pleasant; a genuinely nice conversation about the role and the company. That, unfortunately, was the high point.
The second interview, with a peer, was less an evaluation and more an audition for the role of his personal assistant. This person seemed far more interested in figuring out how I could make their life easier than in understanding what I would actually bring to the team. A revealing glimpse into the internal culture, in hindsight.
Then came the "panel interview" or rather, the idea of one. They first tried to schedule it at absurdly short notice, apparently assuming I could simply abandon my responsibilities at my current job on a whim. It never ceases to amaze me how companies expect candidates to demonstrate professionalism and commitment, yet penalize them for showing exactly those qualities toward their current employer.
After several rounds of back and forth, we finally landed on a date which they then cancelled, citing the sudden unavailability of the person who was supposed to assess my language skills. Fine, these things happen. Except nothing happened afterwards. I followed up multiple times asking about next steps and was met with total silence. Not a rejection, not an apology, not even a template email. Just ghosted by a company that presumably expects its own candidates to behave with basic courtesy.
And that, in the end, tells you everything about Mural: plenty of polished branding and noise about culture and collaboration, but when it comes to treating actual human beings with a minimum of respect, they simply can't be bothered. If this is how they handle people they're trying to impress, imagine how they treat the ones already inside.
