I applied for a WCS Business System Analyst a few months ago and received a call from a Nike Recruiter the following day to schedule a time to speak with her about my experience/skills and the position. She scheduled the phone interview about 5-6 days after she called which was a helpful because it allowed me time to prepare. Just to be clear I have a technical and project mgmt background so this position was a bit different compared to my current and previous job scope. WFC was something I had no experience with, but I think she was more interested in my project mgmt and technical background.
The day of the first interview, I received her call on the dot and she briefly detailed the position. The questions were quite simply and short...maybe only 3-4 questions and the interview overall lasted 15 minutes. She was very enthusiastic, polite, and I actually enjoyed speaking with her. After the interview she immediately wanted to schedule a second phone technical interview with the hiring mgr.
A Nike recruiter reached out to me via email to schedule the second phone technical interview. I confirmed the time & day, but I didn't receive a call. I waited about 10 minutes and than noticed that they scheduled it in PST in which I was in CST; however, literally after I caught that, I received an email from them stating that the hiring mgr is unavailable and needed to reschedule. I rescheduled the interview and the hiring mgr called on time.
He first informed me about the shift of this position and whether that is suitable for me and honestly I couldn't tell him as it kind of caught me off guard. I assumed it was a regular M-F 8-5, but it was the reverse. I stated that I'd have to work that out with my family to determine. He didn't have much to comment....it was more like a long silence.
Truthfully, I did not get a good vibe speaking to the hiring manager beginning from the first question and as we went deeper he began annoying me more and more because I would answer a question and there would be this long silence as though I'm suppose to say something more...i literally at one point said "hello" b/c i thought the phone got disconnected. This occurred in numerous points through the interview. There was also no emotion as though the hiring mgr really didn't care about my experiences and no feedback. I felt half way through that this is not the person I'd want to report to and probably best to just answer the question without adding anything extra to it as I was not in the position to sell myself, but was looking for them to sell themselves to me. Granted everyone would love to work for Nike, but just the name isn't everything..you must love your job and must love the staff you are working with as it's someone you will be spending 8hrs a day with 5 days a week.
In the end the hiring mgr stated that the recruiter will reach out to me about the next steps...I pretty much knew that it would be best they did not (which they have not yet and not expecting them to). My mind was clear half way through the interview that I was no longer interested in this position only due to the hiring mgr. I wasn't going to risk giving up my current role as a Project Mgr and 10 year seniority for someone who can't sell the company nor himself. Hopefully no one will experience this, but it's always best to find out before than later.
My advice is if you already have a good job and seeking something better, interview the hiring manager and study the company to determine how they are performing in the current market. It seems that Nike is starting to do well; however, they recently did have to layoff 2% of their staff so that also occurs in large organizations frequently.
