I have had two encounters with this organization as an applicant. For the first position, I had a similar experience to the one mentioned in another review below from December 2024. I was supposed to have a video interview, but the HR rep shared that they could not get their video to work, so we did a no-camera interview. Also similar to the other review, the HR rep seemed to give a lot of energy to the recent gap in my resume. 2024 and 2025 are unusual job markets so I am not sure why a gap is surprising. Not to mention there are 15 years of solid, no-gap experience just before it! Sighs.
Another red flag: my name is one that can be shortened to a nickname. Think "Jeff" for "Jeffrey." However, the HR rep decided to just call me by the nickname version without asking me if that was OK. It wasn't OK.
More recently, a similar position opened up and I applied again. (Sidebar: why does this position, or one like it, keep getting posted in such a short period of time?) The same HR rep emailed me and asked me to give some days/times I am available. I responded with my availability. Twenty-four hours later they let me know they were not available at those times and to please send my availability for a different date. I did, within the hour, and did not hear back again. Eventually, the day they had asked me to give my availability for had passed. This is when I told myself, "This is not the right organization for me."
Advice to NRECA: Candidates in 2025 are navigating an unusual and stressful job market. We are humans, not AI or technology, and expect, at a very bare minimum, that you will get back to us when you say you will. The next day is too late. I was excited at the chance to have an interview with your staff, that you asked me to give availability for, and then I was ghosted. This is not appreciated or acceptable. I am a very high-performing achiever, with results that I was prepared to share with your team of interviewers, I would have made a strong impact on your bottom line.
