I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at NYU (New York University) in Jun 2021
Interview
The first interview was a basic phone screening with HR that lasted about 20 minutes. A week later I get invited to a second interview with the department manager, but the name of the job changed. It went from “Systems Administrator” to “Junior Systems Administrator.” No big deal, but that was a weird thing. He then opens the interview by saying he didn’t read my resume and asks me questions he knew I wouldn’t know the answer to if he had just read my resume. Then he formally introduces himself 15 minutes into the interview along with the duties of his department. Somehow, I make it to the third interview (manager took a 2 week vacation between second and third interview) and the third interview is a panel presentation for him and 6 other colleagues. The presentation goes fine, but almost the entire panel looked disinterested. The manager asks the panel if they have any questions for me, and it’s clear as day no one prepared any interview questions as only 2 of the 6 panelists asked me any questions at all and only one of the questions had anything to do with the position. I answered a total of 3 or 4 questions, and when the manager would keep asking if anyone else had any questions, silence would prevail for 10-20 seconds. To top it off, I didn’t even get a rejection until I reached out to the hiring manager. Completely unprofessional interview process, especially considering it took so long between interviews.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at NYU (New York University) (New York, NY) in Jan 2023
Interview
Went well and interviewed with a number of colleagues. The interview laster about three hours. The level of professionalism was very high and extremely knowledgeable individuals. Now, I am onto the next phase and I will meet with more administrators.
