I came into this interview genuinely excited about Natera. I had a previous positive experience with the company, including a prior interview and a job offer, so my expectations were high going in. Unfortunately, this recruiter screen was one of the worst candidate experiences I have ever had.
From the start, the tone was off. When I mentioned my prior interview and offer with the company, the senior recruiter, Megan, told me she had no record of it and implied I was not being truthful. Being called a liar before the conversation even gets started — by someone in a senior recruiting role — is demoralizing and set the tone for the rest of the call.
Before we even got into the role itself, she disclosed that the position was temp to hire and immediately began pressuring me to decline. I was transparent that I was unfamiliar with what temp to hire looked like in practice and had questions — which is a completely reasonable response. Rather than taking the time to explain, she became dismissive and seemed more focused on getting me off the call than actually helping me understand the opportunity. When I raised concerns about job security in a temp role, she responded with "every job is at will" — which completely missed the point of my question. It felt less like a recruiting conversation and more like she wanted me to decline so I would stop taking up her time.
What made it worse is that none of this was disclosed upfront. The job description made no mention of the temp to hire structure — that only came out during the call. The posting also advertised competitive benefits, which is misleading for a role where you receive no benefits until you convert to permanent, with no defined timeline for when that happens. Candidates deserve that information before they apply, not after... especially to avoid wasting time.
When I tried to ask basic questions about the role itself — how it compared to other customer support positions at Natera and what the day to day structure looked like — she refused to give me answers and remained dismissive throughout.
This interaction left me feeling dismissed, disrespected, and like my time did not matter. Candidates deserve better.
