I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Natera (San Carlos, CA) in Jul 2019
Interview
Applied online, got a call from recruiting, interviewed with her on the phone and then a call with the hiring manager. Invited in for on-site.
The on-site interviews seemed to go reasonably well. After the interview, HR e-mailed me and asked for references and asked that I prep the references for a call. After that, they never called the references. So annoying!
Pinged HR on several occasions, they said no decisions have been made, and that she'd let me know when they decided. Never heard back...
+/-'s
+ The genetic testing they do can be beneficial in what it can detect, e.g. meaningful impact...
+ All the people I talked to, I had good feeling about. All pretty level headed, and a good mix of diversity (men/women/ethnicity).
- The business model is a bit sketchy. It appears that the amount they can charge insurance and/or the patient for a test is often less than what it costs them to run the actual tests.
- If you look at the insider stock trades, the c-suite is in a constant sell mode.

Question 1
Hiring Manager: I'll describe our lab process. Sketch it out and make suggestions to improve it.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Natera in May 2025
Interview
The process began with a phone screen conducted by the recruiter. Unfortunately, this part of the process felt impersonal, as the recruiter primarily read off information about the company and the position without asking me any questions. It seemed more like an informational session.
Following that, I had an interview with the hiring manager. This session included a mix of behavioral and technical questions, which I appreciated as it gave me a chance to showcase my skills and experiences. However, after this interview, the hiring manager mentioned that it was more of an informative interview rather than a definitive step in the hiring process. This was somewhat confusing and left me uncertain about the next steps.
What was most disappointing was the lack of follow-up. Despite reaching out to inquire about the status of my application, I never received any response. Communication is a key part of the interview process, and this lack of closure was disheartening.
Overall, my experience with Natera's interview process felt somewhat disorganized and lacking in clear communication.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Natera in Sep 2024
Interview
Incredibly confusing process from the jump. While the initial interview was clear on what the process would look like, the timeline and subsequent interviews did not match up.
Incredibly intelligent folks, but some interviewers seemed to have a poor attitude, and preferred a high volume of questions over diving deep on any sort of quality or background information. Some interviewers were late, unprepared, and many seemed to have no idea of the context around the interview (what round it was, who had been spoken to already, borderline boilerplate interview questions). Some interviewers even seemed to be trying to steer me away from the organization with the way they discussed the culture.
After 4 hours of interviews, I was hit with a blanket rejection from a no-reply email address. Probably standard practice these days, but given the time invested, left a poor taste in my mouth.

Question 1
Standard Product Manager Questions:
- Talk about a time you had to balance priorities under a tight timeline
- Talk about a time you had to deal with a tough engineering personality
The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Natera in Apr 2024
Interview
Recruiter call and then a 30 min interview with the hiring manager. After that, I had met with product and engineering teams. Standard questions, nothing surprising. I experienced a lot of frustration in the process due to the lack of transparency on what the process is. There was never really communication on what the next step is after each interview.
