I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at New Relic (Portland, OR) in Feb 2015
Interview
The interview starts with being tasked to launch an app on Heroku monitored by New Relic. After that they will call to set up a phone screen. This was just a basic chat.
At the end I was asked if I wanted to continue with a technical phone screen. I said sure, and a week later I had a call discussing basic troubleshooting experiencing and how I would approach different problems. If you have basic networking and coding experience you will be fine. The focus is not on grilling you for skills, but more about your approach and what you're interested in.
The final interview is a half day with back to back interviews about 30 min apart, and then a lunch with current employees.

How to handle a situation where you are not unaware of the solution
Started with screening call. Then interviews with hiring managers. Fair, asked good questions. Good people. I thought they were thorough but not overly aggressive. All well done by their team overall.
