I applied through New Relic website and did not hear back until after 1 month. A recruiter called me and asked some questions, including my salary. I never tell a recruiter my salary expectations so as not to create a cap, but I do tell them my current salary and I can't go below that salary. The recruiter told me New Relic pay much less (20%) than my salary. I told her that this is the market salary based on my research (Salary.com, Indeed.com, Glassdoor.com, etc.) and I asked if there are other benefits that can be part of a total package?
The recruiter just basically said that's how much New Relic will pay, no negotiation. It's kinda interesting that I haven't even spoke with the Hiring Manager and they're setting a cap of 20% below market salary with NO DETAILS of the stock options - after all, why bother working for a startup if they are NOT going to give you stock options?
The recruiter said she'll call back.. which of course she did not.
I worked in IT for more than 15 years, with a combination of large and small start-up (try 40 person company) and never I been treated this way.
