I went in for three rounds and met with seven different people, and the Monday after the third round (which was a Friday) I was told by the recruiter to expect an offer “today.” This continued for another two days, into Wednesday. She said they loved me and were working on an offer, which takes time. Then, when she came back saying that the team had decided on a later shift, I expressed reluctance (why hadn’t anyone been more forthcoming with me from the beginning?) but said I would have to see the offer to decide if it was worth it. Recruiter said they wouldn’t make me an offer unless I was “excited” about the hours (what I was excited about was the shift I had selected when given a choice out of two during the interview process). I told the recruiter I needed a night to think about it, and the next morning she told me that they wouldn’t be making me an offer after all because I wouldn’t be happy working that shift. Essentially, I was told they don’t make offers unless they have the candidate’s word that they will take it (huh?) So, reviewing an offer before deciding whether it would be worth it for me to continue working nights was off the table. Not sure how truthful the recruiter was with me during the process, but she indicated I was a shoe-in for the role and even said the hiring team referred to me as a “rockstar candidate” (I have the email receipts!). This is after weeks of the recruiter begging me to go into each round ASAP, because they knew I was up for another position, and supposedly the Post wanted to move swiftly in hiring someone. The whole process was extremely sketchy, a waste of my valuable time, and it left me with a bad taste in my mouth for the company culture. Perhaps I dodged a bullet.
