I was cold called by a Newell recruiter. After his initial screening, I had a phone screening with the hiring manager. Then I was invited to interview in person with five employees including the hiring manager. Afterwards, I was told by the recruiter that I was a top candidate and the interviews were excellent. But then they searched my social media posts without my knowledge, and because there were harsh political comments about the current administration, they called me back to make me explain them. During that conversation it was clear to me that my technical skills were not in question but my personal political views and word choice were. The recruiter kept me "warm" for one more week before telling me they were passing on me as a candidate. Fair to say that this is illegal in NJ to discriminate during the hiring process using social media, being public or private. I feel discriminated against and do not recommend Newell.
