I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at NewsCred (Seattle, WA) in Sep 2016
Interview
After getting referred to the position of Full Stack Software Engineer, I was made to first talk to senior recruiter for the job/culture fit. Next step was a 1-hour technical phone screen with an engineer. Clearing that round led to 2 more interviews with an engineer and VP of engineering for more questions on my background, experience and NewsCred. The final set of interviews were with a senior engineer and CTO. After few days of the last 2 rounds, got an email from the recruiter that they decided to fill the position with an alternate candidate.
While the above process seems very straightforward and the interview experience with each NewsCred employee was really impressive, I was hugely let down by the recruiters. They did a pathetic job in moving things forward where in I had to followup multiple times to schedule each interview. Both the recruiters I worked with showed zero engagement and wouldn't even bother replying to followup emails. Finally, after getting positive reviews in all rounds (including final 2 rounds where CTO was interested and wanted to talk more) I got an email in an automated way that didn't justify why I was not selected. As usual, there was no response to the last request for the feedback too. I was really hoping to get this exciting opportunity and enjoyed interacting with all the technical employees of the org but sadly got affected by poorly functioning HR department. I really hope the org doesn't get affected by such repetitions in the longer run.

Interview
At first there was a phone call interview. Which was not technical. Just to get to know me better I guess. After that I got called for the second round. It was a technical interview where I was asked to develop a simplified version of a hotel booking system. I was given 60 minutes to complete it. After I finish the test, interviewers asked questions on my code and wanted to know my philosophy. Questions were on point and logical. I was also asked to solve few problems. We discussed the algorithms and time complexities. After that interview I got called for the 3rd round where I met their VP of Engineering and some other engineers who are in leadership roles. They asked me questions regarding my current job, then gave me hypothetical system design problems to solve. There were few OOP questions which were a bit abstract and hard to understand. Questions regarding design patterns were also asked. That was the last stage of technical interview I guess but unfortunately they decided not to go ahead with me. Which was a bit disappointing from my side. But overall a good experience.

Interview
I was called for a face-to-face interview with two of their Engineers. The interview process was very unprofessional and immature. From the get-go, one of the interviewer's attitude was hostile.
I am not from a CS or SE background. So at one point, I was asked how I got into programming. I mentioned that I took a few online courses during my college days. So he later advised me to not only take online courses, since a lot of his colleagues took online courses but weren't very good. But I should focus on reading more articles and open source contributions. A fifteen minute lecture followed on how my basic was poor and how much work I needed to do.
At that point I had 2.5+ years of industry experience with plenty open source contributions. And it was a long time since I actually took an online course(not that it's a problem in my eyes). While I can accept that my interview wasn't very good, but I didn't really respond to his accusations, since there was no point responding to an illogical person.
Couple of months after that interview, I landed a job at a much bigger company with twice the salary they offer. My basic or article reading skill was never questioned.
