Had an initial behavioral interview with hiring lead which was all about my background and experience. Went really well. Was given clear next steps, including a “case study” that I was told I couldn’t really prepare for it (I’ve been in the workforce for 7 years). Get to the next round and the “case study” was a complex finance problem that I would’ve expected in an investment banking or MBA consulting interview (I don’t have an MBA). Felt completely blindsided as I clearly could’ve been told what to expect generally and brush up on finance and accounting 101. As someone out of school for several years, I think it’s safe to say you wouldn’t remember specific financial topics and equations off the bat. I always interview very well, and here I was made to feel like a complete idiot and that it was a mutual waste of mine and the interviewers time. I was actually embarrassed at the end of it too. Never even heard from the recruiter or company afterwards either – overall, was left with a very negative taste in my mouth. To surprise a candidate like that by telling them they can’t prepare (when they absolutely can) and then ghosting them is highly unprofessional.
