This company approached me via LinkedIn a few times over the past couple of years but I was never interested in changing jobs and had geo limitations. Due to family changes, the Detroit area is now a potential relo possibility. So when they reached out again in Jan-2021 I decided to listen more seriously and had good conversations with the Recruiter. I was asked to interview with the Hiring Exec and was "assisgned" and interview day/time - no one asked me about my availability and it conflicted due to my calendar (I am currently employed). At that point, I was told 'that's the only time he/she has to interview' so we'll lyk if the initial candidates don't work out'. A bit narrow-minded, but if that's how they operate it's up to them. I closed that particular opp off my list and moved on.
Two weeks later, they called me again - 'we'd love to set up that interview now'. Obviously a bit skeptical, I asked when they wanted someone in the open seat and was told 'when we find the right person'. I provided no fewer than 6 poss day/time slots and also let them know that I was willing to juggle things if those didn't work, and also willing to conduct a call after 5pm or as early as 7pm if that would help. And then...they sent me an invite for a time/day that was not on that list - which once again conflicted with a prev professional commitment so could not work. I asked for any other options and was told 'he/she very busy so if you want to work here, this is when he/she can talk, he/she does not do any calls or work after-hours, person has to start March 1'. Once again, their decision - but apparently hiring leader's time more valuable than the candidate's, and 'deadline' a new bit of info.
This was a long entry, but I think it's important for potential candidates - especially engineers in this market - to have insight into the candidate experience. It's a reflection of the culture - behavior > words on a website. As a member of many professional/automotive/engineering networks and groups, I will of course not badmouth any company out there, but will (and have) shared the above story with some colleagues who have asked for advice/insight to the job market.
