After submitting my application, questionnaire answers, and supporting material, I heard back from the company after about 5 weeks. They advanced me to the next round and asked that I complete a scripted video interview, which I did and submitted before the deadline. A month passed before I heard about any next step. I was offered an in-person interview and it was scheduled. When I asked about travel and lodging, because I am not local to Chicago, I then became unqualified for the position.
While I respect the right of an employer to choose a candidate more native to the geographic area they would serve, I am troubled by the following by the hiring manager's failure to pay full time and attention to the documents submitted. While my resume does not list my address for privacy's sake, my current employer and its location should be a strong indicator of where I currently live. Not only that, in my scripted video interview, I mention the specific work I do for my current employer and the location multiple times.
To be clear, I believe the Noble Network of Schools is a strong indicator of the good happening to transform communities in Chicago. However, poor attention to detail when looking to hire a candidate in such a critical position is proof that some of the issues in our charter world start at the top. We can't expect scholars to be detail oriented if leaders are not following suite.
Best of luck in your search for a dynamic candidate.
